Contribution of British scientists in world science is invaluable! Remembering Hawking's, Newton's, Rutherford's, Maxwell's and Darwin's writings inadvertently pose the question: Who would we were without them? Certainly not the people of the 21st century!
But my today's story will be dedicated to another worthy son of the British land - James Charles "Jim" Marshall. Maybe he did not belong to the classical notion of the term "Scientist", perhaps he was simply a smart and talented engineer, businessman and musician, but his pioneering work on the development of guitar amplifiers made a real revolution in the guitar sound. Thanks to his works in 1985, Marshall was invited to Hollywood to add his hand prints to the "Rock and Roll Walk of Fame". And in 2003, Marshall received an OBE honour from Buckingham Palace for "services to the music industry and to charity". A great honor for simple engineer, isn’t it?
As for me, a simple boy from the distant and cold Russia, in my first acquaintance with the rock music I found out three great names: Gibson, Fender and Marshall. After all, the most famous musicians of all time, including AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, Gary Moore and Iron Maiden, have used and continue to use the products of these three big brands.
And being a grown-up, i connect my guitar (although neither Fender nor Gibson) with pleasure and pride in Marshall guitar amplifier. And I believe that several generations of musicians and listeners will grow with music, which has a direct relation to the great son of the British land - James Charles "Jim" Marshall.
There is an English proverb: Every man is the architect of his own fortunes. Jim Marshall proved it completely.
